The origin of the term "Heavy Metal"

What is the source of "heavy metal" as a term to describe that genre of metal music?

I was watching Metal Evolution
(a TV documentary of episodes that was produced in 2011)

As I reached the 3rd episode the host was interviewing band members
of English band Black Sabbath

This story below was told by Geezer Butler the band bassist

He confirmed that no one of the band has ever come up with the term "heavy metal".
All what they were doing is playing loud/hard rock with dark/heavy lyrics.

The term heavy metal appeared as a derogatory term (a few year after their first release)
to describe their music in one magazine.

They went to many auditions and no one was interested to hire them to play live in a club
nor produce a record for them.
Their manager introduced them as a heavy rock band,
but someone criticized them in a review and said that their music was so ugly and disturbing that it sounds as if a heavy metal was being drooped.. in a non musical way whatsoever!

Interesting to hear this story.. I have been wondering about how that term was formed
and that was one explanation that seems authentic to me.

Here is a link to the source on IMDB
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1978940/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

In the documentary many other interviews of US and UK bands
that helped this genre of music flourish and continue..
it also shows many sub-genres of metal

I strongly recommend you get it from the link below
